Beltane Blessings 2011

November 1, 2011 by Caithe

Father Sun shines brightly
Warming mother Earth
Joining in creation
Nurturing growth

It’s the Beltane season within the Southern Hemisphere – the traditional time to observe fertility celebrations.  A few centuries ago, you would have been preparing your bonfire; deciding which of your lusty neighbours were worthy of your attentions.

I’ve included many ideas, both historical and modern, to help you decide how to honour the abundance of life that returns to us each year after the cold winter months have passed. These may be found on my website ~ please click here.

The Beltane bonfire is a tradition that goes back hundreds of years.  The bonfire was not just for warmth and light.  It was a time of community and gathering; merry-making and festivities.  Traditionally, it was lit with a bundle of nine different types of wood on Beltane Eve and allowed to burn through to the following nightfall.  Each household would take a piece of wood from the fire back to their own homes and light their own fires from the Bel-fire.  This was to ensure abundance through the coming seasons.

Today, I prepared my Beltane Ribbon Tree: a 2 metre tall dead tree, painted pink, decorated with crystals and white ribbons.  The following ritual was developed from the wonderful wisdom of other people and adapted for my own use.  I hope you may find it useful as well.

Visualise yourself standing in front of the Beltane Fire – a large bonfire where the flames cleanse, clear and re-energise the world that we live within. With you is a basket with all that you require for this healing ceremony.

We symbolically join hands in a circle of energy for healing; Welcoming Universal Source in all its forms – Help us to bring ourselves into the alignment that is our Truth so that our bodies, in the Now can heal and be at rest.

Visualise yourself dancing, laughing and singing around the Fire.

Beltane is here! It is a time when the earth is fertile and full.
Long ago, our ancestors planted their fields at Beltane.
The fields that lay fallow for months are now warm and waiting.
The soil that was dormant for the winter now begs us to plant our seeds.
The earth is awakening and ripe, and this is a season of love and passion.

As our fires grow, lighting up the night sky, the fire within us grows stronger.
It is the fire of lust and passion, knowing that like the earth, we too are fertile.
Tonight, the God emerges from the forest. He is known by many names –
He is Pan, Herne, Cernunnos, the Green Man. He is the God of the Forest.
Tonight is the night he will chase and capture the maiden.
She is the Queen of the May, Aphrodite, Venus, Cerridwen.
She is the Goddess of fields and flowers, she is Mother Earth herself.

Fire and passion, love and life, brought together as one.

Lady Goddess ~ you are the earth, the womb of all creation.
Like the earth itself, Within me, new life grows each year.
Water is my blood, air my breath, and fire is my spirit.
We give you honour through our co-creation with you.

Lord God ~ you are the fertile stag, the seed, the energy of life.
You are the mighty oak that grows in the forest; The spark to the fire.
We give you honour through our co-creation with you.

Now visualise a tree in your mind – a tree that has special significance to you or the Tree Of Life is appropriate here…

Walk around the tree three times, clockwise. At the end of each rotation,  touch the tree with your right hand and make a heart connection with it.

As you circle the tree for the first time, say: “With a grateful heart and loving mind I give thanks for your wisdom”. Touch the tree with your right hand for as long as you feel necessary.

As you circle the tree for the second time, say: “With a passion-filled heart and respectful mind, I give thanks for your silent strength”. Touch the tree with your right hand.

As you circle the tree for the third time, say: “With a blossoming heart and inspired mind I give thanks for your wild beauty.” Touch the tree with your right hand.

Sit or kneel in front of the tree. Take the honey from inside your healing basket and pour a little at the base of the tree and say: “May you be blessed with Beltane’s bursting, replenished in Beltane’s greening, strengthened by Beltane’s passionate flame. Brightest Beltane Blessings on you my friend.”

Pour the last of your honey out at the base of the tree.  Take ribbons from your basket.  Each represents a person, situation or place that requires healing.  Tie them to the branches of the Tree.  State:  “With love, gratitude and open heart.”

Thank the tree, the fire and the Universal Forces for a wonderful healing and blessing ceremony.

The Goddess Within ~ The Love Goddess

A summary of the broadcast on Reflect Radio, 25th October, 2011.

When I first mention to a client that the Goddess of Love has been the key guide within a holistic session, people tend to think that romantic and/or sexual love is theirs for the taking.  Why does the word ‘love’ conjure that image?  Media, culture, family expectations, spiritual beliefs all contribute to the meaning of love…

When I first started exploring the Goddess Archetypes, I was really disheartened to discover that within the Celtic Pantheon (family) of deities, there was no real distinct goddess association. Sure, I could think of the following Celtic dieties:

Aine (Ireland): sun goddess of love and fertility who is also associated with cattle, fire and a stone that made people crazy when they sat on it. Three times sitting on that stone and you were guaranteed a place in an asylum!

Branwen (Wales): love and beauty goddess who was unhappily wed through duty.

Creiddylad (Wales): a love and flower goddess who had two suitors fighting over her. King Arthur settled that feud by arranging for the two to fight every May Day until Doomsday; in the meantime Creiddylad had to live with her father.

No offence to those Goddess energies.. but they just didn’t resonate!

Instead, I turned to the Greek Pantheon for divine inspiration.  Can you guess who it is? The goddess of beauty, fertility, and sexual love?  Yup, you got it! Aphrodite…

Aphrodite’s origins, in fact, pre-date the ancient Greeks. Her origins were Babylonian/Sumerian hence her identification with the Goddesses Astarte and Ishtar. Her Roman equivalent is Venus

She is said to be older than Time, however no one ever makes comment of a woman’s age.  Aphrodite exhibits more aspects than just love and beauty,. She embraces all of nature: vegetable, animal and human.  Her powers are associated with fertility and growth, including crop harvesting, war, the descent to the underworld, the cycles of life and fate. She was also worshiped as the sacred ‘prostitute’ ~ this is due to her priestesses engaging in intercourse with men at her altar.

The name, Aphrodite, is Greek and literally translates to ‘foam-born’.  Greek mythology accounts that Aphrodite was born from the severed genitals of the Sky Father (Zeus)–an inescapable connection to male sexuality. It was Cronos (Aphrodite’s Uncle) who severed and threw Zeus’ genitals into the ocean. Although born as a result of a seemingly violent act, white foam spread as sperm and mixed with the sea — Aphrodite emerged as a fully-grown goddess standing on a scallop shell.

If you are looking for a modern version of Aphrodite’s myth ~look no further than Nick Pontikis Myth Man, Myth of the month.. hilarious version of the Aphrodite myth!.  http://thanasis.com/mfeb99.htm

Understanding the ‘who’ and ‘what’ of Aphrodite gives us the ability to empower ourselves every day.

What does Aphrodite’s energy have to offer us?

So many of us are ‘rigid’ with emotions and feelings suppressing them and holding them in because they aren’t ‘right or acceptable’.  Underneath this mask of perfection and serenity lies a deep terror of betrayal and a vulnerability of being hurt.

You know you need Aphrodite when you:

  • live primarily in your mind and through the use of your will, ego and mental facilities to control.
  • work to maintain a perfect appearance (the beautiful mask)
  • wall off your inner self from the outside world and eventually forget your inner essence all together

On an energetic level, Aphrodite has an extraordinarily brilliant energy field, including a radiant core star essence. ‘She is the golden light hidden within our bodies, the secret radiance of our flesh. Shining from within the core of our being, she seeks to make every cell of the body her own and to fill it with her luminous presence.’

As the Goddess within us, Aphrodite encourages us to open our sexual and heart centres. She encourages a keen understanding of effortless intention and surrender. When we become the Love Goddess, we appear charismatic, unusually attractive, and engaging. We exhibit strong, but flexible boundaries in our interactions with others and do not harbor guilt around our sexuality or boundary setting.  Now that sounds golden to me!

By invoking Aphrodite within, you recognize your internal and external ‘imperfect’ beauty and claim it as your own. Aphrodite helps you to feel passions, instincts, and longings, encouraging you to experience them more fully.  The healing of this goddess archetype enables you to experience her own ‘all-consuming passion, charisma, self-assurance, laughter, radiance, grace, and vulnerability’ in a safe environment before bringing it out into the world.   You deserve to love and be loved without shame or hesitation.

Use the energy effectively

Remember, it’s not what you do that creates change.  It’s the perception of how you see yourself, others and the world.  New perceptions create change and new opportunities to emerge.

Everything, including yourself, your thoughts and your actions has an energy or a feeling.  You can feel when someone is anxious, when someone is near you, the weight of your thoughts.  The Goddess Archetypes give you the opportunity to change your perception about yourself ~ beginning a new process of perception and intention to create an empowered YOU.

The physicality of Aphrodite…

  • Get out those clothes, jewellery and makeup that make you FEEL like a woman! Power Dress for the feminine!
  • Decorate with intention to invoke Aphrodite:

Colour resonance ~ Red, pink, violet, silver, aqua, pale green (seafoam), and any shade of light  blue

Decorate ~ Scallop shell, seashells, mirrors, golden apples, Number 5, the ocean, and the triangle

Animals ~ Dolphin, swan, dove, sparrow, bees, and goats

Plants ~ Rose (especially any fragrant rose), quince, myrtle, mint and grape (fruit, leaves, and vines), apples, artichokes, laurel, ash and poplar trees

Perfumes ~ Stephanotis, musk, verbena, vanilla, incense, vervain, and roses

Crystals ~ Pearls, gold, aquamarine, rose quartz, jade, sapphire, silver, and copper

The emotional and mental side of activating Aphrodite

  • Begin to recognise and maintain awareness of the voice of your ego and gently refuse to meet its demands.  Your inner truth will begin to emerge.  Reflect deeply within yourself and allow yourself to determine whether the next door neighbours melodrama need to really impact on your life!
  • Look at yourself in the mirror, strike the Vogue pose and tell yourself just how wonderfully beautiful and sexy you truly are (then, be like me and burst into giggles)
  • Commit to the now… spread love to yourself and to others now. We all co-habit this wonderful world of ours. There are many people out there who do not understand the Divine or the connection with Spirit. If you believe, you must have the faith and the conviction to carry out your dreams, your truth, your NOW.
  • Accept that no one is perfect, we all have faults and weaknesses ~ it is how we react to those within others and within ourselves that is important.
  • Laugh at yourself and embrace simplicity by laughing at the sky.

Affirmations

  • Aphrodite, help me to celebrate my uniqueness.
  • Goddess of love, remind me that I am happy and in love with life itself.
  • Your joy is infectious, Aphrodite. Help me to share it with others.

I hope you find something to use within these very simple ideas to celebrate and empower Aphrodite within your own life on a daily basis.

At the conclusion of the broadcast, I played the Pigs and Pearls Guided Visualisation.  The meditation opens the sacral chakra to release stored emotions and opens the heart chakra to connect with feminine wisdom.  This meditation enables you to feel your own uniqueness and your own higher self attributes to experience a greater sense of adventure, passion for life, and ability to inspire others.

The Great Mother: Goddess Within

September 1, 2011 by Caithe

Archetype One

We continue our series on the Goddess Archetypes with the first Archetype: The Great Mother.

I acknowledge and honour THE MOTHER Within that knows what is best for me at all times.

First, a few words on Archetypes.  Archetypes are subconscious roles, dare I say labels, that we embody within our lives.  These help us look at our lives from a larger, spiritual perspective rather than our ordinary daily view of ourselves within our life.

In virtually all cultures, there are about twenty to twenty three roles of divine consciousness. Think of the Tarot archetypes as an example. These archetypes, seen as a whole, provide a guide for spiritual evolution. They are without gender and they are not linear.  These archetypes do not flow in a straight line. Rather, they are like wrapping yourself in a blanket for a time ~ different parts are exposed to the world, others are hidden within, others still lie close to our heart or mind.  It moves as we move.

Deepak Chopra said: “Each person is hard wired to enact or model archetypal characteristics. Our individual archetypes are reflected in our desires and intentions. Ask yourself “What do I want?” “What is the purpose of my existence?” and if you listen with your soul, the archetype will answer.”

How you choose to awaken your spirituality is your choice.  I believe that Divine Source does not particularly care whether you call to God, Buddha, Mohammad, Isis or Cerridwen.  The most important factor of enacting archetypes in search of ascension is that fundamentally:

  • there is only one Source,
  • all Gods and Goddesses represent various faces of Source, and
  • eerything in existence are likewise aspects of that Source.

So whatever wakes your soul and causes your belly to be afire with zest and zeal, the One is content.

Why is knowledge of the Goddess within so important?

“For the hand that rocks the cradle Is the hand that rules the world.”
– William Ross Wallace

To begin with, the image of the divine as female is as old as humanity.  Archaeologists have unearthed artefacts related to goddess religion that are 30,000 years old!

The Divine Mother lives in the heart of every being. She is the Divine Creatrix who has created life as adoration for Her beloved, – God the Father. Ultimately, these lovers are not two. Rather, they are bound together to play out their cosmic dance of love for all eternity. Think of the Celtic Wheel of Life and the continuous cycle of life, love, birth and death that this represents.

This love story between the Great Mother and Father has interchangeable names – no matter the culture.  The Goddess came from nowhere meaning that there was never a time She did not exist. She is that aspect of the Divine which is imminent and accessible. Where there is love, compassion and mercy, we see Her direct presence. She lives within the present moment.

To perceive the Divine that lives in every being is a transformative step in your ascension process:

  • Your Mother as the Goddess,
  • Your brother as the  God,
  • Your baby as the Divine,
  • Your friend as the Source,
  • Your enemy as the One,
  • Your cat as the All That Is,
  • Your Self as the Eternal Light.

Who is the Great Mother?

Some of the more ‘prominent’ Goddess names given to the Great Mother are:

Virgin Mary, Ishtar; Cybele; Rhea; Astarte; Isis; Demeter; Hecate; Diana, Venus; Quan Yin; Rhada, Ishtar, Aphrodite, Freya, Kali, Magna Mater, Hera, Durga, Devi, and Shakti.

The most ancient of these mother goddesses is the Earth itself, Gaia, mother to us all.

P. W. MARTIN says ‘She is the maiden. She is the earth mother. She is the queen of the underworld. She is the goddess of war, the goddess of nature, the goddess of love, the goddess of marriage, the mountain goddess, the goddess of the chase, the goddess of herds, goddess of agriculture, goddess of fecundity, goddess of the moon.’

The names of the Great Goddess have changed as mankind aged, but her basic persona, as the bearer and protector of all life remains.

There are many who believe that the time of the Goddess has returned to Earth.  She was swept away by Father based religions (think of the persecution of witches and women seen as chattels of service).   As the end of various cycles occur across our planet, more and more people are returning to an understanding of this Archetype.  They are nurturing the Goddess Within by worshipping her.

The Great Mother’s mantra is: I surrender. I receive.

This mantra did not resonate at first for me. Then I felt that in surrendering to Source, to Spirit, I am more able to receive.

See if these qualities resonate with you when you activate the Great Mother within your daily life:

  • Nurturer
  • Grounded
  • Receptive
  • Inclusive
  • Self nurturing
  • Altruistic
  • Caring
  • Reliable
  • Thoughtful
  • Embracing
  • Down to Earth

The book Soft Moon Shining by Ethan Walker III is a work of devotional poetry that revolves around the Goddess. Like Rumi, , Soft Moon Shining takes the reader into the realm of the Divine Mother.

SOFT MOON SHINING

My beloved Divine Mother

Dance with me

under the soft moon shining

in the wide open fields

far beyond the toil and trouble

of my busy mind

Dance with me

before the night grows old

while the winds of love

still bow the grasses

and the coyotes howl for you

to step their way

Dance with me my beloved

while the Mystery’s Edge

still flirts in the shadow

of your radiant light

What does she represent?

Archetypes are really quite simple.  They occur in pairs and the relationship between paired archetypes creates a balance within each individual personality and life.  The pair with the Great Mother is the Victim – the Mother (the one who cares for) is balanced with the Victim (the one who needs caring for).

Our Base Chakra is associated with this archetype pairing.  When this chakra is active and spinning well, we are empowered and act as protector, nurturer and lover of all. When the chakra is inactive, we are helpless and blame others for the consequences of our own actions.

Ambika Wauters’ book, Chakras and Their Archetypes, identifies the dysfunctional root chakra archetype as follows:

The Victim:

  • Experiences the world at the mercy of outside forces that work against it
  • Seldom has awareness or sense of responsibility for its circumstances
  • Is always in a helpless state
  • Totally reliant on partner, companion, family, organization, etc.
  • Is disconnected from their inner core of feelings
  • Mind is stuck in a frozen state of fear, terror or desperation
  • Experiences no sense of empowerment

Are you feeling like a Victim?  Firstly, be honest about your feelings.  Feels of sadness, anger, anxiety or joy should be expressed and acknowledged in healthy appropriate ways.  View the circumstances that surround negative emotions, accept responsibility for your part and take action to move forward.  This process takes you from the Victim State to a functional root chakra state: The Mother.

According to Wauters, this is the one we understand best.  Understanding the Goddess within is fundamental in finding the key to our personal growth and ascension. She helps us incorporate the feminine aspects of our personality so that we are able to love not only ourselves, but others as well.

When you become your own “good mother,” you are able to manage the curve balls life throws you and take responsibility for your circumstances. Eating well, getting enough rest and becoming less dependent on others to mother you are ways in which you develop the Mother archetype. “Mothering and nourishing yourself means understanding what you need and letting yourself have it, to the best of your ability.” The more we are able to utilize the positive aspects of the mother, the healthier and more stable we become.

How may I include her in my life?

The Mother is all about being grounded in earth energy. She nurtures, feeds, watches out for us, and provides for all of our needs. Whether you experienced a supportive mother figure in your physical life, the Great Mother archetype is still available to you. She’s always there for us because she is Within.

When we lose our grounding – or become the Victim, we have lost contact with the Mother.  It is almost a daily reminder for myself that the Mother lives within.  With this fast-paced world of ours, it is very easy to forget to nurture ourselves; to take time out to nourish our spirit, mind and body.  Do you have hobbies or activities that soothe your soul? Perhaps it is listening to music, gardening or pottering around your house dabbling in craft?  Nourishing activities are usually physical and allow the mind to drift on its own path of healing.

You may remember times when you have found yourself out of balance, in the midst of chaos, forgetting your true self, covered in the expectations of others ~ your energy totally gone.  This is The Victim and its your job to recognise this within yourself.

Have you ever been able to relate to this feeling of being totally lost and disoriented? Have you stopped doing the things that you love to do?

Begin to care for yourself and see the changes begin to flow as the Great Mother manifests.

We all need to be aware of what is needed to keep balance and harmony in our lives. This keeps us nourished, cared for and loved. Mothers tune in to the needs of their children and respond in kind. We have to tune in to our inner self and listen to what we need in order to find balance and harmony in our lives. The more the Mother is active in our lives the healthier and happier we are.

We all have to take responsibility for ourselves.  When the Mother is weak and undeveloped, you will stumble and fall throughout your life.  Mother is the foundation for growth and development, and helps you to become aware of your needs in order to take care of yourself.

Symbols to incorporate:

The colour burgundy is often associated with the Great Mother Archetype.  I personally like using red and silver. It is best to find a colour resonance that works for you!

The Spiral– is an ancient symbol of the goddess, the womb, fertility, feminine serpent forces, continual change, and the evolution of the universe. The Spiral is probably the oldest symbol of human spirituality.

The Cup (or Chalice)- A feminine element and a symbol of intuition, gestation, psychic ability, and the subconscious.

Triskele (Triple Spiral, Triskelion) – Closely related to the triquetra, this Celtic symbol, known as the Triple Goddess, symbolizes maidenhood, motherhood, and the crone; and represents the waxing, full and waning moons.

The Triple Moon- Similar to the Triskele in meaning, it is associated with feminine energy, mystery and psychic abilities.

I hope that for you, the Great Mother is active and nourished; Allowing you to be move forward with grace and beauty.  If she isn’t, know that you may easily call upon one or more of the Goddess Energies.  Ask them to help you identify, remove and develop habits that will allow you to be empowered, strong and vital.

Phrasing a question during a Reading or Healing session?

August 14, 2011 by Caithe

Understanding how to phrase the best style of question for a Reading or Healing session is very important. This blog post endeavours to provide guidelines whether you are the Seeker or the Reader.

The words, “What if…” are the most powerful that you may use.  They imply possibilities – infinite possibilities! For example, a Seeker (i.e. the Questioner) may want to know if a new relationship will be meaningful, lasting and significant in their life.  Most Seekers would ask: “Is this guy the One?” A great question would be: “What if I allow myself to hope that this guy is ‘the one’ – to what degree will an investment of emotion and time in this relationship prove rewarding?”

Of course, phrasing ‘what if’ questions may prove troublesome or cumbersome for many.  Some easy to follow tips are included here.

These tips may be displayed predominantly near your Reading Space or on your website to assist Seekers with their question.

1. Ask a question or make a request – “What does the future hold for me, please?” and “Tell me about my future please” follow a similar vein. I always include my manners here as this shows respect for your tools and to the Universe. “The issue is my future” is another good form ~ it is open to possibility. Giving the Reader a two-page description of your situation does not ask a question or make a request.

2. Use open rather than closed yes/no questions. “Will I get back together with my old boyfriend?” limits the Tarot reading scope.  “Will I get back together with my old boyfriend, and why?” gives a little more room for the Tarot to interpret.  “Tell me about my relationship with my boyfriend” or “the issue is my relationship” are probably better questions again.  Personally, I prefer: “Please tell me about relationships of the heart and intimacy”.

3. Focus on empowerment to make the best decision.  This is achieved by avoiding questions that start with “Will I…” Many people ask “will I marry (someone)?”.  The choice is theirs whether they marry or not. Tarot reading can easily answer “who is the best husband/wife for me?” or “why can I not find a good husband/wife?” but “will I” tends to cause problems. Of course, “will I get a promotion?” is a valid question, in my opinion, because that is up to your employer, not you. When the choice is yours, do not use the “Will I” form.

4. Keep your options open.  “When will I find a new lover?” is a restrictive question because it rules out the possibility of an old lover returning. A better question would be “what is holding me back from finding true love?”

The Reader’s task is to help the Seeker phrase their question in an empowering manner.  This gives the Universe the opportunity to direct and suggest rather than work within a limited range of possibilities!

Asking the Seeker to write their question allows both the Seeker and the Reader the opportunity to work together and create the ‘ideal’ question.

Most Seekers are very nervous about whether their question is “right” and will openly ask for guidance in asking it correctly.  The ‘trick’ is to stop them from telling you their life story which can affect your objective energy flow.

The following “Seven Deadly Traps” were cited in an article in the American Tarot Association’s Newsletter (Volume IV number 4, August 1999). It’s a matter of personal preference as to whether you choose to follow them or not during your reading sessions.

  1. Questions with Should, Would or Could.
  2. Questions about other people (Who will, Who should, Who…).
  3. Questions about time.
  4. Questions about being (Is my girlfriend cheating on me?).
  5. Questions about why something or somebody did something.
  6. Questions about what will happen in the future.
  7. Questions about health, wealth and legal problems.

Please, do not encourage questions on medical diagnosis, pregnancy, specific dates or locations, or regarding the manipulation of the freewill of another. They are unethical and remove possibilities from the Universe. They are not empowering.

Great questions give answers that empower you to change the course of your own life. They show you how YOU can change matters for yourself through your own thoughts and actions.
