The Goddess Danu – The Primal One

The Goddess Danu is considered to be the most ancient of all the Celtic dieties. Her name means knowledge, wisdom, teacher, wealth and abundance. She is also known as Dayna and her Welsh equivalent, is Don.  These ancient references refer to her as both male and female and as the supreme divine source.

This Celtic goddess is associated with the Tuatha de Danann and is attributed with making them the famous race that we know today. When they were adrift in the oceans off the United Kingdom homeless and scared she invited them to her island where she taught them the skills that we know them for today. Danu is a lover and a giver through her guidance she recognises our potential and she is an artist craftswoman too!  I appreciate the warrior and the nurturing aspect of this goddess.

There are no known records of her folklore.  I’d like to share a story that Danu gave to me during meditation.  I am not claiming this as fact; only a way for us to connect with Goddess Danu.

This is the story of all that I be and how I claimed the race of people as my own.

Back in the mists of a time long gone, I resided within the tides and currents of the waters.  In tune with the cycles of the moon, I held the cycles of life, birth, death and rebirth within my hands.

Within the watery depths, I am aware of all that was, is and all yet to be.  On this particular day, under the Ice Moon, I felt a stirring within the fabric of the Universe. I felt the cries and pleas of a people abandoned on the sea above me.  Using my Wisdom Stone to scry the current events, I could see the wooden hulls of many boats drifting aimlessly on the stormy waters.

I knew that these were a people who knew war, despair and defeat.  Within their souls, I could see the spark of possibility and a grand future.  Even now, in the midst of their defeat, this spark would not be extinguished.  They sought hope and prosperity for themselves as a people.

Their being resonated within me.  I could feel the Universal concordances falling into synchronicity.  These were to be my people.  I looked closer within the Wisdom Stone to see a race of people tall in stature and broad in shoulder.  Their hair glistened with the colours of amber, gold and jasper.  Within their hearts, I could see the glow of magic waiting to be ignited and their minds held the capacity to understand and use the knowledge of nature.

With a new possibility in front of me, I appeared to these people on the waters.  Rising from the depths, I stood on the waves dressed in my robes of silver and white.  My auburn hair caressed the ocean breezes and I held my arms out in welcome.

“Failte, People of the Sea.  I am Danu and I offer to you my protection, my knowledge and my creativity.  Place yourselves within my care and I will give you shelter, strength and sustenance.”

Man, woman and child knelt within their boats and offered me their loyalty.  Deeply touched, I encouraged them to stand.  They were never to be a people to bow to anyone ever again.

With a gentle breath, I guided their boats to my Island home.  I helped them to become one with the land, air, earth and sea. To understand the cycles of the world around them and the wisdom that is held within each and every one of them.  I taught them craftsmanship, blacksmithery and the tactics of war – blending creative expression with a warrior spirit.

I awakened their passion and desire through work, rest and play. Their consciousness was transformed from being locked into the essence of their physical knowledge into an expression of the joy, ease and glory that can be through consciousness.

I helped them break free of the rational mind to embrace possibility.  They live intuitively, instinctually and in harmony with all around them.  When they are unsure which way to turn, they call on me, Danu The Primal Queen.  I lead them through the path of life with a joyful heart and eyes that seek the pathways of vitality and beauty.

These are my people – the Tuatha de Danaan. Fierce fighters with the soul of a bard, they now reside as the Sidhe – invisible to most yet an energetic force that propels each of you to be the best you can be.

Micro Meditations – from Zapped to Zen

Did you wake up this morning with your feet hitting the floor? Were your thoughts going at a hundred miles an hour?
If you are like most people, your life is a constant motion – thoughts, emotions and actions topped with a healthy dose of guilt from a “gunna-do, dinna-do” attitude*.
In the midst of your busy-ness, little changes to routine can help you restore your inner balance. These conscious choices, each day, move you from being a Gunna-do to an Achiever Beaver.
I like to suggest micro-meditations to my clients as most people are unable to focus for more than 5-10 minutes. We are used to listening/watching TV, reading our emails, being on Facebook while texting on our phones – all at the same time. Bring your multi-tasking, multi-focus attention back to a centred approach by using these following suggestions as part of your daily practices.
– choose your positive intention; whether it be mantras, affirmations, questions or statements. Spend 5 minutes recording them onto your computer as an Mp3 – play it on your phone, burn it to a CD, or carry them around on your iPad or Notebook! Whatever works for you – you can listen while you are making breakfast, driving to work or as a loop while you sleep.
– Grab a beverage of choice and find a quiet place to consume it. Place your hands around the drink and take a deep breath. As you sip, concentrate on the liquid, the scent, the texture as you drink. This also works well for eating. It encourages your focus to remain in the present moment.
– Turn off all your techno gadgets and hum a tune. Perhaps do a little dance! This activates your memory, concentration and also your coordination.
– Make a date with yourself. If you are constantly worrying about something, open up your diary/calendar and make a time to concentrate on it. Right now, you have other things to focus on. Keep true to yourself and when the time comes, take 5 minutes to focus on the problem that is gnawing away at you and your focus on everything else requiring attention.
– Smile; even if it is through gritted teeth. Stop what you are doing, or focussing on and smile. Take a short walk away from your current task – to the water cooler, to the window, to the bathroom. Smile at someone, something or remember a ‘smile-full’ memory.
Incorporating these 5 minute micro-meditations into daily practices, helps you regain your centre in the midst of the busy-ness of life.
* a Gunna-do is Aussie slang for “going to do” and Dinna-do is “didn’t do”.

Spring Clean your Emotions

Emotions – everyone has them.  Nearly every human being also has trapped emotions within their body.  If you imagine that every emotion is a flow of specific energy, then trapped emotions are like stagnant pools of water that need flushing out of the body.

As seekers of healing, many of us have been told to either – “build a bridge and get over it” or “just let go of the emotion”.  I know I’ve used those feelings myself.  Living in a state of trapped emotions is actually very draining on all levels.  It is the forerunner for depression, anxiety and dis-ease.  In this edition of the Celticai eZine, I’d like to give you some suggestions for letting go of those toxic emotions.

First, we need to clear those emotions from our thinking.  Have you ever noticed that the emotions we suppress, repress and push down deep inside have a way of either exploding out inappropriately physically or our mind will keep bringing a memory for us to agonise over?  These are the emotions that need priority clearing.  Keep a diary or a dream journal – what is your mind endeavouring to tell you?  Perhaps it is a feeling of anger, shame, fear, sadness, guilt or embarrassment.

Second, Ask the Universe a clearing question.  For example: Universe, what would it take for all feelings of {insert emotion} to be cleared from all energies, realities and dimensions?  Change the negative statement e.g. I am alone and afraid; to one of positivity e.g. Why am I so confident and surrounded by loving relationships?

Third, take positive action.  This can take a variety of forms and really depends on you, the Individual.  Here, I’ve listed a few suggestions.

–          Stop overanalysing your emotions and become child-like – feel your emotions!  Express them positively.  Cry, hug or smile.  Emotional release is freeing!  If you are angry, yell into a pillow or hit a punching bag (inanimate is preferred! J)  If you are afraid or guilty, hug yourself and state a reminder that you are using all the skills that you have/had at your disposal.

–          Observe your body and how the emotions flow.  Here is a general description.  Anger/frustration sits at our back. Sadness sits within our throat and third eye chakras (neck and throat).  Happiness moves from our heart to our belly.  Fear sits within our abdomen and ripples out in tremors.  What do you observe within your own body?  It is worthwhile to use muscle testing to determine whether these emotions even belong to YOU!  If they do not belong to you, send them back to the sender with love, light, consciousness and healing attached.

–          Identify whether you are using food, alcohol, substances or sex to ‘chase away’ these emotions and keeping them locked up tight within you.  If yes, then a commitment to releasing emotions will help your addictions be released as well.

–          Express your truth – say what you mean and mean what you say.  We are conditioned to respond to wellbeing queries with: “I’m fine. Thank you.”  Of course, this does not give you permission to unload your emotional release on the unsuspecting cash register personnel.  Find a trusted friend, loved one, healer or counsellor to help you express yourself fully and appropriately.

–          Be grateful for the positive emotions that flow in your life. Identify them by expressing your thanks for them – in word, song, art, craft, writing or however you wish to express them.

–          Find time to be at one with yourself. This may mean time for meditation or prayerful contemplation.  Develop rituals that help you release your emotions.

–          Connect with your spiritual helpers and the Divine Healing Energy of the Universe.  They will only step in to assist when you ask for assistance.  Drop your pride and seek assistance.

You may like to work with crystals to help your release trapped emotions. My recommendations are Rose Quartz, Labradorite and Green Aventurine.  Each of these are powerful crystals for identifying, releasing and healing emotional trauma.

Another option is to use Journey Essences – Quan Yin for compassion; Base Chakra for releasing stagnant emotions and the Sacral Chakra for healing emotional wounds.

The biggest fear to release is the fear of our own emotions.  I hope that this small article provides a few suggestions for sitting with and releasing those emotions within you.  Happy releasing.

Working with the energy of the Piscean Full Moon

This powerful moon is considered by some to be a Blue Moon – a second moon within a calendar month.  I do not hesitate to name it as a Blue Moon however I will state that astrologically, it is not a blue moon.

With our eyes turned skyward to the gleaming disc within the sky. May we take a moment to honour Neil Armstrong, astronaut, who gave of himself to be the ‘first man’ on the moon.  To be able to look down on our Earth from above – what an incredible sight that must have been!

We are coming up fast to the Equinox in September! In preparation, this full moon has the energies of Neptune and Chiron within.  There will be many surprises, moments of joy and ‘light bulb moments’ as well as a feeling of being lost, alone, even melancholy.

It is a full moon of purpose – a combination of our soul purpose and our physical action.  Normally, they tug at each other in different directions.  However, I have a feeling that the Fish is becoming more like a Salmon as the years progress.  The energy is purposeful – You will wake up!  You will find your connection!  The Salmon is learning how to flow UP the river.

The Goddess Rhiannon asks you to combine your creativity and your passion with your daily living. No matter what you do – a job you love, or a job you detest, you can still fulfil your destiny with an attitude of love, determination and duty.  Whether you be the homeless person on the street or the most famous, glamourous and exhalted human known to mankind – your purpose starts right where you are NOW; in this moment.

This full moon will bring your ‘lost pieces’ to the fore; demanding that you seek a more fulfilling way of living your life.  It will be a time of introspection and healing.  –Give yourself the time to contribute to Universal healing through a group meditation (I’ll be conducting one on BlogTalkRadio – see the link below) or personal ritual then read a good book or watch a good movie with some chocolate and a box of tissues.

During this Full Moon in Pisces you may choose one of the following activities that resonate with you – or create your own!

  • Create time for music, painting, poetry, or to read an interesting book.
  • Seek quiet time to rejuvenate your soul
  • Relax in a bubble bath (even better if you can SEE the moon)
  • Daydream or meditate
  • If the weather permits, go swimming or a walk near a body of water.
  • To help with grounding, fill a basin with warm water and a teaspoon of sea salt – let your feet soak.
  • Get a pedicure, reflexology session or massage – to pamper the physical body
  • Open up your intuition through divination tools – oracle or tarot decks, pendulums, scrying, or however your clairsensing gifts present themselves.
  • Spend time in your garden – to meditate or purposefully give back to the earth.
  • Put out your crystals, your wallet or even a ‘wish list’ for the moon’s healing energy.
  • Take out a container of water and leave it under the moonlight.  The next day, fill a spritzer bottle with the moon-blessed water. Light a blue candle and then gently spray your home with this blessing.
